Our Story
From the Wairau Valley to the World's Finest Wine Lists
Queensley Wine was founded on a single conviction: that Marlborough's finest wines deserved a more direct, more considered route to the British trade.
How It Began
A Region Worth Championing
Queensley Wine was established by a team of wine professionals with deep roots in both the Marlborough wine industry and the UK on-trade. Having spent years watching exceptional New Zealand wines lose their identity — and their margin — through layers of intermediaries, we set out to build something different.
Our model is straightforward: work directly with a curated selection of Marlborough's most respected producers, import their wines under our own bond, and deliver them to UK restaurants, merchants, and retailers with full provenance, competitive pricing, and genuine account support.
The name Queensley is a nod to the regal quality of the wines we represent — and to the Marlborough region itself, whose wines have earned their place on the finest tables in the world.
The Region
Why Marlborough, and Only Marlborough
Marlborough is not simply New Zealand's largest wine region — it is one of the most distinctive wine-producing environments on earth. The convergence of the Wairau and Awatere valleys, the intense UV radiation, the dramatic diurnal temperature variation, and the free-draining alluvial soils combine to produce wines of extraordinary aromatic precision.
Sauvignon Blanc found its southern hemisphere voice here, and in doing so redefined the category globally. But Marlborough's story does not begin and end with one grape. The region's Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and Riesling have quietly earned their place on serious wine lists — and it is these wines, alongside the iconic Sauvignon Blanc, that form the backbone of the Queensley portfolio.
Our Approach
How We Select Our Producers
Viticulture First
We visit every producer in our portfolio at least once per vintage. We look for growers who understand their soils, manage their canopy with precision, and harvest at the moment of optimal flavour development — not at the moment of maximum yield.
Minimal Intervention
Our winemakers share a philosophy of restraint. The role of the winery is to preserve what the vineyard has produced, not to manufacture a style. We favour producers who use native yeasts, avoid excessive oak, and bottle with minimal fining and filtration.
Consistency of Quality
The UK trade depends on wines that perform vintage after vintage. We work only with producers whose quality is consistent across years — wines that a sommelier can list with confidence, and a retailer can reorder without hesitation.
Long-Term Relationships
We do not chase allocations. Our producer relationships are built over years, which means we can offer our trade customers priority access to limited releases, advance vintage information, and the kind of provenance documentation that serious buyers require.
The Team
Wine Professionals, Trade Partners
The Queensley team combines decades of experience across New Zealand viticulture, UK wine importing, and on-trade account management. We are not a brokerage — we are a specialist importer with skin in the game, committed to the long-term success of every account we work with.
